What happens if I need to have an operation at either the Bristol Nuffield Hospital or Southmead Hospital?
If your treatment plan requires you to have surgery at either the Bristol Nuffield or Southmead Hospital, this is due to the specific equipment needed for your procedure.
In most cases, shockwave lithotripsy is carried out at Southmead in the Lithotripsy Unit.
Flexible uretero-renoscopy can be carried out at either Southmead or the Bristol Nuffield Hospital (because of the need to use a specific kind of laser for this treatment).
If you are medically insured, you need to make your insurance company aware of where the procedure is being carried out and explain this is due to the equipment needed for this procedure. If you are not privately insured, you will be sent an inclusive care price from the hospital where your surgery is due to take place. Confirmation of all surgical procedures are sent directly to the patient from the hospital where treatment is due to take place.
